Hello everyone!

Might be doing something wrong, but in the pop up browser we can use the arrow keys to move forwards but not backwards? (After re-checking you can go back on the first 4 sections but when you reach the Category section you can't go back anymore)

Makes you go back and forth with the mouse in case you go the wrong way. Quite like the fact that when you land on a device and switch to the presets tab, it shows presets for the device you landed on before. Neat! But you also have to grab the mouse and click that tab

Would be nice to have a shortcut like shift + arrow to tab through device/presets/samples/etc tabs. There might already be a shortcut but tried all the modifier keys and it didn't work. Would speed up workflow quite a bit as that would enable us to use the pop up browser without touching the mouse.

Loving BW2 so far! :)

I've reported this to support as I also found it strange

There is, CTRL + left/right arrow, on windows. Probably CMD on Mac. But you cannot have the search box selected, you need to have something in the lower panes selected.

Yeah it's Ctrl on mac too, problem was just like you said, was trying it with the search box selected. Thanks!

Cool!

I also got a response from Bitwig regarding the first issue, it is acknowledged as a bug.

I'd like to see this and several other browser enhancements. One thing I really want is for them to bring back the pop-up mini browser for quickly adding devices to tracks and anywhere else in a contextual manner. I've made a group with various tracks in it for different types of devices I frequently use and just turn them all off. Then I can quickly option+drag the device I want from my Library group to any track. Kind of a sad workaround, but anything to reduce necessary clicks in Bitwigs browser.. I feel there's a lot they could do to make the browser smarter, more functional, and Most important faster. The remember filters function helps, but I feel it would be nice to have a shortcut key that while held and you click on the plus symbol or whatever context would bring up 3rd party devices, or just Bitwig devices.

How about the ability to add multiple devices to a track at a time? Come on, you can select multiple devices at a time in the browser, but you'll only ever be inserting on one device slot.

Bitwig 2 has 2 browsers, the one that is built in to the main window and a pop up contextual browser. Isn't that the one you mean? If you click a track and press B it pops up.

From the 2.0 Manual "The Pop-up Browser is aware of its surroundings, assessing where it was called up within the track's signal flow and then giving you the most common device type for that particular situation. For example, clicking the add device button immediately before an instrument will automatically suggest Note Effect devices." .

As for having preset tracks, you can save chained devices as presets so you can load up into any track. If you don't feel like actually creating a track you can create a template for common vst/plugin combinations you use, have both your song and template open at the same time and drag from one to the other.

Adding multiple devices at once would be a nice addition! I guess they made multiple choice possible to drag several audio files, so, just gotta make that available for devices

The browser window on the side is probably the best way to do it now, but would be nice to have the pop-up at cursor in an organized window like it was and be able to close the side browser window for extra space. The new pop-up browser feels a bit cumbersome and lacking in filter functionality. There's apparently no way to, for example, see all Bitwig audio devices with one click when opening the browser unless you save filter selection, which would then require you to remove that filter for anything that isn't included in it later.

It's not a huge deal, but I think any sort of enhancements the ultimately equal less clicks, mouse movements, and sometimes keyboard strokes is in general good for workflow efficiency. I think it'd be pretty useful to have a similar pop-up browser like the old one, but also make it customizable so with any + click in the device chain you'd be presented with a pop-up at cursor/+ that has easy access to all Bitwig effects in their categories, as well as chosen 3rd party effects, and of course the same for instrument tracks with instrument devices.

You can always close the browser in the main window by dragging the inward line to the side! But yea sometimes i get confused on both browsers or just feel like it took more time than it should to find audio. Devices not so bad because you always have a million more audio files than vsts. There may be an option i don't know for this but it's REALLY annoying that every single folder is always open and you have to keep closing stuff to get a better view.
