Steps to repo:

Preconditions:

  • Chrome is not running.
  • Chrome is not a background process. In particular, go into chrome advanced settings and uncheck the option "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed"
  • Chrome is the default windows browser (method varies by OS version so google how)

Actions:

  • Launch Bitwig while there is an update available for download. In this case I am updating 2.1.3 to 2.1.4
  • When asked to download by Bitwig, click the download button.
  • Chrome should launch and begin downloading.
  • Close Bitwig studio.

Unexpected behavior:

  • Chrome is terminated suddenly.

Armchair Analysis:

I suspect chrome is being launched as a sub-process or shared process such that Bitwig's termination also terminates Chrome. This doesn't happen if chrome is already launched or running in the background. Other browsers may exhibit the same behavior.
