was just wondering what I'm getting into by buying the software- it says 12 months of free downloads are included, but after that? How expensive are upgrades in year 2? I would greatly appreciate any feedback

After 12 months you're 1 year older... :D

Seriously though, after 12 months you're no longer entitled to free upgrades but you can still use the version you have (hopefully with bugfixes, i.e. double point releases, like 2.2.x). Then you just wait until cumulative features added to the version you have justify the upgrade price and only then pay. This will be very individual - some might pay & upgrade right away when next update shows up, others will wait until 2nd, 3rd or maybe 5th update or even longer. This is actually a very clever system, because Bitwig - to get money frequently - will be encouraged to release substantial updates often, to listen what their users want and the updates themselves should be varied in terms of features, so that more people would pay again. For example if they were adding new modulators only, then users that care about instruments, effects or workflow improvements wouldn't pay. So I hope they'll be alternating or mixing different types of features and come up with substantial update every 2-4 months.

If first year of 2.x is any indication, we're in for some great stuff coming from Bitwig in the future.
