If the user has an audio interface with a large number of outputs, the popup list becomes extremely long and unwieldy. I have 36 outputs on an RME RayDAT card. Once a project gets loaded with lots of tracks, etc., the list becomes a headache.

If more than 4 physical outputs are configured in the System Preferences, a good compromise would be to fold the entire list of outputs into a submenu.
