Whenever I got a single instrument playing, it always seams louder compared to when I add another track. It's almost as there is some built in compression in Bitwig. I have no plugins added by the way.

Could there be some phase cancellation occurring? to eliminate this possibility do the same test you did previously only use 2 sounds that occupy different frequency ranges. if the level still drops there is something else going on.

One simple way to answer your own question is to take a reading with a loudness meter before and after. :)

Figured this one out. I am using a Surface Book 2, and finally noticed that the built in audio driver uses Dolby loudness leveling technology(basically a limiter of some sorts).
