I have just bought the Keylab 49 with Bitwig as part of the "producer pack". I get an error message which says "Engine failed to connect. PortAudio pa_OpenStream failed. Error: Invalid Device".

I'm using Windows 8 (or 8.1). I have seen a couple of questions which deal with fixing this on Mac, but I cannot see the equivalent fix for Windows 8/8.1. Does anyone have any idea?

Hi Riot,

Thanks for your help. I had tried those things, but after a lot of clicking on and off buttons/options I managed (by chance) to find out the problem.

In the Options > Preferences > Audio tab I had inadvertently selected my laptop's speaks as being the input device as well as being the output device. Once I had deselected the input device so that that was blank, I was then able to go back to the main screen and click on the Bitwig icon in the top left corner of the screen, which then turned from grey to orange - and everything started working!

Thanks Jason

Obviously that was meant to say "Audio Engine"!

I have uninstalled 1.1.4 and reinstalled the disc coy of Bitwig which is 1.0.11 whereas that had originally been OK, now I am getting the same error message with that version. The only thing which has altered on the computer has been windows automatic updates. Perhaps it is a windows update which has something incompatible.

Did you delete the Preferences file before launching the downgraded 1.0.11 version?

Are you using WASAPI (make sure you have the same sample rate set up all over the various places) or ASIO?

Also: maybe some application is using the soundcard in exclusive mode..?
