I'm having an issue with a particular project where when pressing either the spacebar or the play/stop icon to start or stop the track, there is a definite delay of about half a second before the action takes place.

If I load a new project, this problem goes away. If I save this project as a different project the issue still appears.

If anyone has any ideas to try?

Unfortunatly not. This is happening with just bounced audio. No processing or plugins on the tracks.

Copy all tracks to new project, one by one and test for delay each time?

To avoid this problem you may need to catch the root cause of delay and to catch this issue you should try to copy each track in a new project and then check the delay but note that you have to check delay on each track when you copy one track then check it when you copy another track then recheck it and so on. This usually occurs when we don't add a plugin. I am working for a company that serves USA Resume Writing Services where I was a project manager and I did the same mistake as you and I forgot to add the plugin and this issue came to my project. Then I tried this experiment and it worked for me. Hope this also works for you...
