It would be useful to be able to port Ableton Live projects to Bitwig as they are so alike. Is it possible? Or will it be?

No. I doubt this will ever happen.

They are not the same coding or same company who makes those daws. First they are competitors soo reason 1 why it wont happen. Second they have diffrent devices so you wont be ever be able to use bitwig devices inside ableton or ableton in bitwig. Reason three is that even if they are alike they still are diffrent so porting wont ever be possible!

I understand it would be cool and it defently would be first daw to do that but there are to many restriktions making this possible. Last ableton would never give the rights either for a competing company.

It's interesting to note that Ableton files are actually just gzipped XML. It's a very open format, so it's relatively easy to get that data out.

Bitwig, on the other hand, seems to use a proprietary binary format. In the absence of format documentation, this effectively prevents third party developers and tinkerers (such as myself) from accessing or creating such files.

Want a Live-to-Bitwig project converter? Call on Bitwig's developers to use a open file format and I'll gladly build it.

Expanding on this point: although I am not a lawyer, as far as I know there is nothing (excepting cordiality) preventing Bitwig's developers from actually building such a system. There's no intellectual rights that might cover a file format excepting a patent, and I very much doubt that Ableton would do that (even if such a thing is patentable in the first place, which I doubt).
