I shouldn't have to drag a note around to hear a preview of this – I want to hear the note when I click anywhere in the piano roll or when I add or drag a note.

I absolutely agree. After a week using Bitwig it's probably the biggest downside for me. I tend to build fairly complicated melodic arrangements and moving through the MIDI to create these arrangements is painful. I have to move the note up or down to move it BACK to be able to hear what each note is, The fact that a note isn't triggered when moving via the up/down/left/right keys makes it harder still.

The manual seems to indicate that this is by design, but I agree that it would be better if it worked as you describe.

It needs a further option to enable this. Also hilite row and corresponding note on the piano roll of selected note event( so we can see where we are on the piano roll)

I absolutely agree with phall, its very messy when the key´s not highlighted throughout when you press a note. Maybe in red or orange!
