Got a nifty 88 key variant S-Series from NI and it doesn't work with BWS?

  1. Uninstall the Komplete Kontrol software from your PC

  2. Uninstall the Komplete Kontrol USB driver from your PC

  3. Turn off the S88 and unplug the USB

  4. Go to the NI web site per instructions on the S88 instruction card.

  5. Register the S88 serial number (first time only) and pick the “download” software link.

  6. Download the Komplete Select software (even if you have NI Komplete 10)

a. I unchecked all the VST instuments during the install since I have them already.

  1. Do NOT go to the NI Service center as it requests, but just close it out.

  2. After it’s done installing a restart is required.

  3. Plug in the s88 USB and turn it on

  4. After the restart open up the NI Komplete Kontrol stand alone app. Your S88 won’t work and doesn’t show up in the list of instruments.

  5. Open up the NI Service Center and then download the 1.5 version of the software. (It’s an update)

  6. Before installing it turn off your S88 again

  7. Install version 1.5

  8. When it’s done turn on the S88.

  9. Open the Komplete Kontrol software and now you’ll see the S88 in the MIDI section of the setup with 3 options 1, EXT and DAW all turned on.

  10. Test out one of the instruments in the software and make sure the keyboard plays.

  11. Open Bitwig.

  12. Make sure the Komplete Kontrol.dll file is installed in the path that Bitwig is looking at. In my case I had to copy it there from the VST folder my machine thinks is the default.

  13. Open Bitwig and go to preferences. The control surface is automatically detected as S61. Because of all my tries I’m not 100% sure it’s automatic but you can add the S61 manually if not.

  14. Once it’s there you have to add ALL THREE options to get the MIDI and transport to work.

a. Make it look like this picture: S88ControllerConfig

Big thanks to Tim B. for this guide!

Question to you guys: does it support automatic track selection with Bitwig?

According to this it does not:

So... when you select another track in Bitwig using the mouse, do the S88 parameters/knobs/lcds switch to the instrument on the selected track automatically?
