Is there a key that is assigned to the stop button?

Yes, here: - hit "p" to stop playback - hit "SHIFT-p" to pause playback - It will then resume at that point if you start the transport again.

You might also want to have a look at the Commander ("CTRL-Enter") - a nice searchable keyboard shortcut list.

Addition: you can switch the 'P' for a spacebar as well.

okay but what about a key that stops the play back and starts it at bar one

Try alt+p or alt+space. This should do the trick. If windows annoys you, try fullscreen.
