I wish there is a feature that would permit a discrete one-shot record for the loop region without looping back. When selected, recording stops at the end of the loop region. Is that possible some way currently? I think it would be a convenient feature.

There is the Punch-Out feature. Set your region, then activate Punch-Out (button to the right of the loop activate button), start recording, and recording will automatically stop at the end of the loop region. Note that this does not seem to work if loop is activated.
